GIGAS

The City of Reclamation
Nestled on the western coastlines lies the great metropolis of Gigas. Modern in every sense of the word, the city is an enduring relic of an age long thought lost. With its great infrastructure, the city is the largest known concentration of humanity in the world, a veritable megacity with all of the conveniences of life produced within it. Gigas is a city of light and noise, a city that never seems to sleep for all the hustle and bustle within.

High technology, coupled with cars and various other modern accouterments have made Gigas an advanced, if somewhat unnatural seeming place. There are parks, but nothing like Union's own. The city is extremely clean, well cared for, and tidy. Everything in it's proper place, with old structures being removed and rebuilt with some regularity.

GLACIER.

In the icy steppes of the north lies the Glacier Confederation, a group of smaller fishing villages that banded into a larger city in order to face the harsh conditions as a unified people. The people of Glacier are hearty and brave, and their experience in shipcraft has given them a great deal of mobility along the coastline.

The people of Glacier make their homes in stout stone homes to shield them from the elements. Though the city appears to an outsider to be frozen, colorless and lifeless, inside each home is a place of warmth, with a constantly roaring fire pit in the center providing heat to those that dwell within and bright, colorful and warm rugs, quilts and pelts adorning the floors and walls.

The battle is joined. The gods of Union, while mighty, seem to pale in comparison to the singular dragon of ice. Although they strive mightily to avoid damaging the city, already the mysterious blue dragon has been flung directly into a tower, earning itself a nasty gash over its eye, much to the dismay of the red dragon. While it has rejoined the fight, it is clear that the gods alone are not enough - the people of Union will have to step forward if they are to save their beloved city. The cries of the wounded and terrified citizens echo through the streets as the flames of battle rage. Now is the time - they must be stopped!

The Breeding Center is a special part of the Pokémon Habitat dedicated to producing more Pokémon eggs. The Breeding Center is focused around bringing diverse Pokémon to the trainers of Union and beyond. Every two weeks, a new batch of eggs will be made available for characters to choose from. Each character may take one egg if they so desire. Eggs take 2 weeks to hatch, begin at level 1 and come with an egg move. These eggs are all drawn from the Starter Pokémon pool. To claim an egg, tag the appropriate week thread with the egg you wish to claim, with the journal of the character claiming it. Mods will not respond to requests to claim an egg, you may simply take it and add it to your roster.

Additionally, Trainers may submit Pokémon to the breeding center to broaden the Starter Pool. To submit a Pokémon, simply tag the appropriate week thread with the Pokémon you are submitting. The Pokémon will be inactive for two weeks when submitted to the Breeding Center, and will not be available for the Trainer to use. A Pokémon is added to the pool when 5 submissions of the same breed have been made.

A link to the old Breeding Center can be found here.

For the last forty years, Sanctuary has been under the rule of Gigas. While their own council was nominally able to retain autonomy, they suffered under the harsh rule of the Gigan military. Despite having been conquered for a significant length of time, their culture has persisted. In May of 2015 (OOC date), a group of rebels from Sanctuary escaped from the city and pleaded for aid from the other civilizations around the world, leading to its liberation.

A foray into the Wildwoods led to the discovery of a subterranean people hidden beneath the surface of the earth since the time of the Savior. Believing themselves to be the last human survivors, the people of Refuge had never dared to venture back out on the surface for fear of invoking the wrath of the Pokémon. Their reintroduction into the world has moved slowly, and they largely continue to keep to themselves.

Citadel is a city built into an enormous living tree in the plains to the northeast. With the appearance of a great, fiery beast within their lands, the Valkyries of Citadel were forced to scavenge further south, resulting in a clash with the people of Union. While the great tree does house some permanent inhabitants, it primarily serves as a base of operations for the Valkyrie tribes, a group of nomadic herders notable for their female warrior class. Citadel is used as a meeting place and houses the Matriarch, the leader of the Valkyries. The Matriarch is chosen through a grand tournament every 10 years. The current Matriarch, Frea, has held the position for thirty years.

CALDERA.

Jun. 28th, 2015 11:11 pm
bravenewmods: (Default)

Located to the northwest of Union, the city of Caldera was discovered by Union when they sent out a desperate broadcast for aid in their ongoing siege by the armies of Gigas. Fortuitously, Union had expanded its technological capabilities just in time to pick up said signal. During the events of May 2014 (OOC date), Union was able to assist Caldera in repelling the Gigan troops, and Caldera became Union’s first and strongest ally. The relationship is mutually respectful; most recently, Caldera sought Union’s assistance once more in the liberation of their sister city, Sanctuary.

The normal leveling system is explained in info posts through the game, but the Simplified Level System is an alternative option intended to help those who don’t want to deal with heavy bookkeeping still play and enjoy the game. This system is used in place of the hard level tracking; it has the advantage of keeping all Pokemon you own more or less even but the disadvantage of you not being able to micromanage what you really focus your levels in.

Instead of tracking levels, simply track the amount of weeks the Pokemon has been with the trainer. Each Pokemon will come with its own inherent “Week number”; add that to the amount of weeks you have had it bonded with you to discern its relative power level. For your trainer, if they are Enlightened, their personal level is equal to the amount of weeks they have spent in the game. This system is still subject to the level cap.

If you wish to Intensive Search, that week does not count toward your total weeks. If you wish to Intensive train, that week counts for two weeks instead of one.

All Enlightened begin at 12 weeks and all starter Pokemon begin at 6 weeks.

In order to effectively use this system, we suggest tracking the week your character joined the game, as well as the week you bonded with your Pokemon and any weeks you Intensive Search or Intensive Train.

Trainers with the Mastery of Training ability gain an extra week every 3 weeks.

Week to level equivalency for Pokemon:
1-5 weeks: Levels 1-10
6-10 weeks: Levels 11-20
11-15 weeks: Levels 21-30
16-20 weeks: Levels 31-40
21-25 weeks: Levels 41-50
26+ weeks: Level 52 (cap)

Caldera:
Located to the northwest of Union, the city of Caldera was embroiled in a war with Gigas for two years and sent out a desperate broadcast for aid from any who were within range. Coincidentally, Union expanded its technological capabilities just in time to pick up said signal. During the events of May 2014, Union was able to help Caldera repel the Gigas troops - at least, for the time being. In gratitude, Caldera promised its assistance in any future endeavors.

Caldera's history and culture differ greatly from Union. Though they have legends of a god native to their area, a red giant, they hold no particular reverence for it, as it is believed to have nearly eradicated Caldera during the time of the Savior. Union's attitudes towards Pokemon are viewed as amusingly quaint. They have little ability to communicate with Pokémon, but work with any who would respect their strength. They, in turn, respect the abilities of their partners. The Calderans greatly value strength, honesty, loyalty, and tradition, and frown upon those failing to adhere to these virtues.

Caldera's greatest asset is its location relative to several mines in the area, and it churns out steel and machinery at a high rate. There are a form of Enlightened within the city known as Earthkin, primarily attuned to the types of Fire, Steel, Rock, and Ground, though Earthkin attuned to all types exist. The abilities of the Children of the Verdant Forest are foreign to them, and Kindred Souls and Shifters are rare. Calderans have their own unique Enlightened ability, the Child of Unyielding Steel, that is available only to them. For more on Caldera, see the entry in the Information Collective. Caldera also celebrates a holiday known as the Day of Fire.

Former Residents: Cliff Fittir, Lucca Ashtear, Tendou Souji, Elka, Kuvira, Fili, Kili, Hayato Ichimonji, Thorin Oakenshield, Estelle Bright, Umi Sonoda, Konoe Kikyo, Honoka Kousaka, Adell, Ranka Lee
Open to be applied from. Will require minimal/no mod coordination.

Citadel:
The Citadel is a city built into an enormous living tree. While it does house some permanent inhabitants, it primarily serves as a base of operations for the Valkyrie tribes, a group of nomadic herders notable for their female warrior class. The Citadel is used as a meeting place and houses the Matriarch, the leader of the Valkyries. The Matriarch is chosen through a grand tournament every 10 years. The current Matriarch has held the position for thirty years.

The Valkyrie tribes live by much different values than the people of Union. Wild, untamed and free, they tend to run by directive of the Matriarch, although they have a number of basic "rules" that they follow regarding property and punishment.

The tribes are decidedly Matriarchal culturally, with men typically performing most of the labor and craft duties and women holding the warrior and government positions. Each tribe has its own elder who represents the tribe's interests, the position is, much like that of the Matriarch, determined via tournament. While ostensibly open to all, the Matriarch position has never been filled by someone who wasn't already an Elder.

The Valkyries have Enlightened, whom they refer to as Windblessed. Valkyries are most commonly flying, normal and fighting types, although as with Union they have a wide variety of typings that can appear. The Citadel itself is smaller than Caldera, but the accumulated tribes are roughly equivalent to Caldera in population. The Citadel does, however, have a good amount of additional space built in which can accomodate all of the tribes when they gather. The Valkyries have their own unique Enlightened ability, the Child of the Howling Gale, that is available only to them. For more on the Citadel and the Valkyries, see the entry in the Information Collective.

Former Residents: Mami Tomoe, Yosuke Hanamura, Domri Rade, Kyoko Sakura, Gwendolyn
Open to be applied from. Will require minimal/no mod coordination.

Refuge:
Refuge is less a city and more of a vast collection of tunnels and caverns underground deep within the heart of the Wildwoods. The people there first took shelter from the war 500 years ago and never bothered to poke their heads out again, believing themselves to be the sole survivors. Hemmed in by the dangerous Wildwoods on all sides as they were, this was probably a good idea.

Refuge lives in harmony with several types of Ground and Rock type Pokemon; they've also developed a symbiotic relationship with some ghosts formerly residing in the forest, using Litwick to light their way in the dark. Their long hibernation underground has led to the development of a special connection with the earth. Many in Refuge with abilities like the Enlightened have developed the ability to manipulate earth regardless of their typing as well as the ability to sense and detect movement when touching the ground. Their Enlightened ability is called the Child of the Shifting Earth.

Former Residents: Kuvira, Signless
Open to be applied from. Will require minimal/no mod coordination.

Sanctuary:

Sanctuary is an ancient city said to have withstood the cataclysm due to the divine blessings of the Holy Seer, a woman who foresaw the coming disaster and led her people to safety. The Magi who emerged in the days following the cataclysm took up the Holy Seer’s task, building up the city into a thriving center of learning and knowledge.

For the last forty years, Sanctuary has been under the rule of Gigas. While their own council was nominally able to retain autonomy, they suffered under the harsh rule of Gigas military. Sanctuary has been a conquered city for quite some time, but despite Gigas’s efforts, much of their culture remains.

Within Sanctuary itself, the city is very much a Mageocracy. Mages, with their great power and influence, control the opinions and directions of the city. The most powerful will move to remote locations for study. Culturally, the city has taken something of a guarded approach to knowledge, and many Mages zealously pursue their research in solitude and guard their secrets with utmost care. While Sanctuary is said to contain the greatest collection of knowledge known to man, due to those who control it, very little is available to the public.

Sanctuary shares a long alliance with the city of Caldera, and even under the Gigan occupation the two cities remain close, with regular trade between them. Caldera has always welcomed Sanctuary refugees, and in times of old, Calderan smiths worked with Sanctuary mages to create some of the greatest weapons known to mankind.

Sanctuary Enlightened have two designations, Magi and Sorcerers, although they typically use the more politically correct term of Earthkin, adopted from their Calderan allies. Magi are the ruling class, wise and learned with the capability of learning a wide array of spells. Magi are the most common Enlightened within Sanctuary, and the birth of a Magi is an auspicious occasion for any household. The oldest and richest houses are Magi houses, and they practice long-standing traditions steeped in history and the accumulated knowledge of unbroken lines that go back generations. Typically, Magi will only marry other Magi as that is the best way to produce an heir to the family’s craft. Sorcerers, or Earthkin, as they are often known, are more standard Enlightened. Sanctuary has a somewhat dimmer view on this expression of power, as they see it as more wild and untamed as opposed to the studious, knowledge-driven art that they practice.

Former Residents: Rincewind, Waver, Jack Frost

Gigas:
A civilization and empire somewhere to the north of Union, beyond Caldera. Little is known about this empire at this time apart from that they are highly aggressive and possess extremely advanced technological capabilities. They claim to have been protected during the war by a great god from whom they take their name.

For more on Gigas, see the entry in the Information Collective.

Team Evolution:
A group of common-minded individuals banding together for a single, noble cause: to restore humanity to the heights it once scaled prior to the great war. Or so they claim. Not localized to any one particular region, Team Evolution has a number of bases all across the northern part of the continent, including within Caldera and Gigas. The team is known for their work in attempting to create a machine that can induce normal evolution, as well as their knowledge of a secret they claim to have once been wielded by the people of their past - Mega Evolution. Most recently, they assisted in negotiating a peace between Caldera and Gigas.

The Seekers:
Dedicated to learning more about ancient civilizations and the gods of old, the Seekers travel across the land in search of ruins to plunder and artifacts to retrieve. They've got bases all over and were first encountered in the city of Caldera. They've recently set up shop in Union with the apparent approval of the Council, perhaps due to their invaluable aid in calming Heatran.

For more on the Seekers, see the Information Collective.

Archipelago:
The string of islands to the southeast of Union are home to several small villages that originally branched off from Union settlers. For one reason or another, they are particularly prone to mass destruction. From time to time, displaced peoples tend to wash up on the southern coast near Union. Following the construction of a seaworthy ship by Banzu, Union finally came into contact with these villages.

Former Residents: Sinbad, Isabela

Open to be applied from. Will require some mod coordination.

Mist:
A village of Shifters initially founded by Yukari Yakumo and Tiki hundreds of years ago, it lived in peace until relatively recently, when a group of raiders captured many of its residents and scattered the rest to the winds. Several of the survivors found themselves in Union, where they vowed to uncover the truth behind the tragedy. Recent evidence has indicated that Gigas was behind the attack, to the surprise of nobody.

This page will cover all special items in the game. The majority of this page will be dedicated to discussing the ability of Engineers to create items. Pokémon with the Ability Pickup may respond here once a week for us to roll for an item. The item will be dependent on the Pokémon's level and will follow this listing. Pokéballs will be replaced with a random One-Use Consumable.

Available TMs are also listed at the bottom of this page and may be used by anyone in the game at any time.

Engineers are able to craft a special item once every week - an Enhanced weapon or one of the items listed below. Enhanced weapons may be imbued with up to two elemental typings. As the city of Union grows and as the Enlightened and trainers continue to explore further, new resources and new special items will become available. As there are a limited amount of resources, Engineers are encouraged to make threads to go out and gather the resources they need; however, it is acceptable for Engineers to assume that some of these things may be found in the city proper.

If, however, we see that twenty-five Moon Stones have been made in the course of two weeks, we may make a note that the resources for Moon Stones have run out, and they will be unable to be crafted until a certain amount of time has passed or until a player initiates a resource-collection log.

As of October 18th, 2015, Engineers will be able to make the following:

Enhanced Weaponry and Armor
Wood and Paper: Engineers may make Enhanced weaponry and items out of wood and paper found in the forest.

This post exists for the purpose of keeping track of characters in similar occupations. If it would make sense for a character to know of or have prior CR with other characters in the same organization, please feel free to contact one another to hash out details. Though some of the organizations may be noted as difficult to enter, no formal application is needed; simply add your character below. For more information about the professions in Union, visit the Society and Culture page.

If you would like to create your own organization, make a note here and we will add it if there are a sufficient number of members to warrant such an inclusion.

Rangers: Rangers patrol the wilderness around Union tracking Pokémon migration and herd patterns, mapping the surrounding area, and sending advance signals to Union if they detect trouble. Rangers also try to help out any trainers in the area who may run into trouble. Almost all Rangers are trainers, Enlightened, or both. The role of the Ranger is quite dangerous, and not everyone who applies is allowed to serve in such a capacity.

Members:
Yuuna Sugasawa | [personal profile] rainsrespite
Returning after a long leave of absence, Yuuna Sugasawa has resumed active duties as captain of the 3rd Ranger Division. She's a veteran explorer, an inspiring figure, and a skilled field medic.

The Swords of the Savior: The Swords of the Savior are a group of Inquisitors that uphold the tenets of Union law and faith. Although officially a church group, they tend to act more as a police force, and their office is with the magistrate in the Council Hall. Swords of the Savior are powerful combatants, but like all in Union, they are bound by the law not to take a life, although they can be authorized to do so in the most dire of circumstances. Their primary charge is protecting the peace.

Members:

James Gordon | [personal profile] commissionergrump
A senior member of the Swords, having been serving longer than some members have been alive. He is known for his leadership and built up a reputation as stubborn, having, despite not being one of the Enlightened, having held out for bonding with Pokémon until quite recently.

Saber | [personal profile] ofpromisedvictory
Though not a native of Union, Saber deeply respects the Savior's philosophy and seeks to protect humans and her fellow Pokémon in every way she can. That way is mostly fighting.

Delvers & Historians: Delvers descend into the depths of the Old City to find resources and materials for use in Union. Delvers are often trainers, and need to be prepared for just about anything. Expeditions often occur in groups, as it's dangerous to go alone. Delvers work closely with Historians, who analyze the artifacts found in the Old City and try to make sense of what came before the war. Historians are of great interest to the Council as they recover the history of humanity.

Members:
Ezreal | [personal profile] indy_wannabe
Ezreal was admitted to the Delvers early in life after mapping a large chunk of the Old City when he was a mere 8 years old and the fact that he received exceptional marks in the Academy but had no interest in formal research. He's been officially active for about 3 years, and was recently able to take it on full-time.

---------

Union Scholars: Comprising the more intellectual side of Union, a significant number of people are in the field of disseminating knowledge. Professors teach in the university and many of the more renowned Professors are common names, as the citizens of Union all go through the university. Researchers, in contrast, focus primarily on research and creating new technology, though they occasionally give lectures or assist in teaching, Those in the Union Library keep track of books and work closely with the University of Union, the Laboratories, and even the government, archiving information for things like marriages, deaths, graduations, major business transactions, research findings, and so forth.

Members:
Ami Mizuno | [personal profile] allergictoloveletters
A girl genius, Ami is a researcher and constantly seeking information. She's been a scholar since she could read but has only just joined the Union Scholars as a researcher after having finished her medical studies for pokemon and people.

---------

Medical Operatives: Doctors and nurses in the Medical Center are kept constantly busy by the flow of patients, whether Rangers injured in the field or more commonplace victims of accidents created by humans and Pokémon alike. They are generally equipped to deal with everything that comes across their path, though many of the physicians specialize in one thing or another due to the widely ranging physiologies of Pokémon.

Members:
Ami Mizuno | [personal profile] allergictoloveletters
Having finished her medical studies at the age of 17, Ami is now a member of the Medical Operatives. Using her analyst abilities, she has a keen ability to diagnose the situation and find the best possible treatment. Her lack of experience in the field is countered by her breadth of knowledge in the multiple subject areas.

Divine Defense Force: The Divine Defense Force is an ancient and secret order dedicated to the worship and protection of the gods. With the war, the gods are thought to have departed, so they instead work to protect the harmony between humans and Pokémon, as well as seek out the gods so they can serve once more.

Members:
Haruka Tenoh | [personal profile] actsmagnificent
Haruka has been in the Divine Defense Force for about a year; she usually partners with Michiru for missions. As a reincarnation of one of the Savior's companions, she takes her duties as a god-seeker very seriously and her thespian activities somewhat less so.

Michiru Kaioh | [personal profile] incousinswithyou
Michiru has been in the Force for about a year and has proven herself an effective and talented member. She's usually partnered up with Haruka.

Rise Kujikawa | [personal profile] celebrity_commentator
Rise is a new member of both the Defense Force and their cover. She's not really used to the serious mission of the group, but her abilities and her desire to help people and Pokémon make her a natural at coordinating the other members in the field.

Kurain School of Channelling: Open to new members. Originally a school limited to the instruction of the Kurain Channelling technique, the school has been open by its current leader, Maya Fey, to train mediums and psychics of other practices as well. Dedicated to the study of psychic and ghost techniques, channelling, and other associated practices, the school is old fashioned and located in the northwest district of Union. Though students may be trained to be or already be mediums (of a sort), onmyoji (spiritual assistants for channelling purposes), nuns, or the like upon request, they may also choose to simply benefit from the spiritual training.

Members:
Rei Hino | [personal profile] faithfulflame
Rei has joined the school officially only recently, but has been an associate and friend for a long time now. She's a skilled exorcist and seer, and gifted at reading fortunes by consulting flames.

The Seekers: Dedicated to learning more about ancient civilizations and the gods of old, the Seekers travel across the land in search of ruins to plunder and artifacts to retrieve. They've got bases all over and were first encountered in the city of Caldera. They've recently set up shop in Union with the apparent approval of the Council, perhaps due to their invaluable aid in calming Heatran.

Members:
Lux Crownguard | [personal profile] ladyofluminosity
Coming from a noble family, Lux was top of her class while she attended. Naturally gifted, she is quick to be able to pick up just about anything. Lux is a new recruit at the Union chapter.

Sinbad | [personal profile] conquerorofwaves
A natural adventurer by nature, the organization seemed like a good fit for him - especially in light of recent events. While he has an uncanny knack for detecting danger and a strong protective streak, he isn't very good at following rules.

As the game progresses, information about the world that the RP takes place in will be slowly uncovered and disseminated to the characters. In the interest of keeping everyone up to date, this post can be used as an informal collection of knowledge. The mods will generally not be updating this section unless there are vital pieces of information we feel the players (and the characters) should know that are being misinterpreted or otherwise not correctly represented.

We will create a general scaffold to use at the start of the game, but players are encouraged to make their own top level threads on anything they think is worth noting. The information collected here is OoC knowledge, but would be known in the context of the game with a minimal amount of poking around and questioning. If there is a piece of information that is known to a certain group of characters that is worth noting OoC, but would not be openly shared with the other characters, please mark [Private] in the header of your response.

6/11: With the debut of the new map, expeditions to explore new areas will be limited. To encourage group exploration, only one proposal will be accepted every two weeks. ICly, exploration of new areas is too dangerous for the Council to allow multiple forays simultaneously. Additionally, you may not lead more than one expedition if you've already done one.

Players may request information for their own plots here. Players are highly encouraged to plan their plots using the Plotting comm first. Groups seeking events should elect a single player to act as the primary plot contact. We also strongly recommend keeping the number of involved players smaller or breaking larger plots into multiple logs to aid in log completion.

When requesting a plot, please fill out the form below:

The following information is for player plots with multiple people:

The moderators will respond to the post after reviewing the request. If approved, the mod team will respond to the request with an approval, and send a private message to the journal used to request the event with a basic outline of what will happen, what will be encountered, and what rewards will become available to the characters upon completion of the plot. The requesting player will have the power to move the plot along in the actual log, and run any NPCs that may be necessary. This responsibility can be shared among the other players at their discretion, the moderators will not typically run any of these plots. However, we do reserve the right to take over a plot if characters are getting close to a major plot point we wanted to unveil, and we also reserve the right to ask questions and request clarification of plots, as well as deny them if we don't feel they're appropriate or properly presented. We will, however, do our best to work with everyone so they can move their plots to a satisfying conclusion.

When the plot log has been completed, reply to the plot approval with a link to the finished log. The moderators will then respond with the full rewards (which can include extra levels, resources, special items, and the ability to bond with Pokémon, among other things). Rewards will not be granted until the log is finished.

When posting a log, please use the below format. All logs should be posted in the standard IC comm ([community profile] bravenewworld)

The following information is for solo player plots:

If you would like to have a solo player plot concerning something relating to personal character growth, we will speak personally with you to talk about how things should go. At the moment, the mods will help run these.

Open Sidequests:

The following are open sidequests that can be embarked upon by all players. Players are responsible for setting them up and completing them as any normal player plots, but these will potentially help advance the plot and open up new areas and Pokemon. Sidequest objectives may also tie into proposed player plots, depending on the circumstances.

Map Exploration
The signal range of the Warp Bands has been greatly expanded! There are many new areas out there to explore...

This objective is currently in-progress.
