perfect, thank you so much! for the second bit there, if the altered ability was a botch job for whatever reason - it wasn't fully compatible, the process wasn't completed, it was a plain failure - would it be possible to retain the original ability with brief (and likely unstable) flashes of the altered one?

using the example from before, have someone be a master of training, but have the odd moment where they're unusually perceptive towards someone's type strengths/weaknesses, or discerning of possible attacks/danger levels?

(if this is feasible for story/power recreation reasons, the offset would be that all of the analyst perks aren't available to them, and those that are aren't usable in a reliable, cognizant way. and they have a fair few homunculus instabilities/impediments to show for it)
