I'm sorry mods for this confusing/complex question. I hope it makes sense!

In their AU history, can a trainer have involvement/interaction with a certain Pokémon, but never got to actually bond with until they actually do it later in life? This Pokemon also not being their starter.

I have Quinn from League of Legends here, whose canon character is very depending on her partner, Valor, a Demacian eagle (canonly rare and thought to be extinct.) that she discovers after her twin brother's death during her childhood. Planning her AUverse history, one possible idea is that Valor is a wild Braviary (or Rufflet if evolved Pokémon aren't possible/really rare case for Intensive Searching) that Quinn interacted with a lot, but never got the chance to actually bond with him even if she is a wilderness type of girl who grows up to be a Ranger and can go much more far in the land outside of Union. And since Rufflet isn't a starter option, I figured she would actually do an Intensive Searching mission to actually get the chance to officially bond with him. There is also that the fact that Rufflets don't seemed to be discovered at the moment.

This is a bit of a special case of spotting/interacting with a possibly rare(?) Pokémon in the game, so if this species isn't allowed to be revealed just yet, it can be changed for a more common bird Pokémon (was just trying to keep the eagle themed when planning about Valor in this AU.)
