i, for one, do still find it troublesome. even if it is realistically possible to have no sexualities paid attention to in a setting that highly encourages reproduction and has natural childbirth as its only way of doing so, that still puts undue pressure on a character who is not interested in that (a group that does not perfectly align with gay characters, but there is obviously a lot of overlap - trans and asexual characters get shafted here too, as do bi/pan characters that might feel like they have to pick a certain type of partner, or any character anyone might want to play as simply not wanting or not capable of having children, perhaps even because those things are touched upon with that character in canon). being constantly told "you need to have children" when there's something about you that prevents or significantly limits the possibility of that is not something that can really be ignored, if one is to stick to the setting. it's rather unrealistic to have pressure like that that doesn't result in negative consequences in some fashion for people who don't live up to those expectations. and if queer sexualities are not actually a big deal, as you say, then why would a gay bar need to be on the down low? either there's a stigma against it or there isn't.
i don't think it would be unreasonable to have a society that recognizes that some people just don't have children and is fine with that as long as they contribute in other ways. maybe by raising orphaned/disowned/etc children (why is a society that has orphans not concerned about there being not enough adoptive parents?), looking after children as part of a job, or just by being a valuable member of society in general. maybe there's less focus on everyone having children and more on making sure that everyone can have as many children as they want, without having to worry about not being able to care of them. you could probably even get away with a sort of low-tech sperm bank (even if some impregnable characters still wouldn't use it). and healthy human populations with sufficient resources tend to grow fast even if there ARE some people who don't create more children.
but even if it wasn't something you could work around, i just don't really see the need for this issue at all. it's worldbuilding, yeah, and it can make sense, but some players don't like it and i don't think anyone would really miss it it you just tossed it out.
